After its introduction to Android Auto last year, it took nearly 12 months for Google to extend this feature to CarPlay users. Drivers can now tap the Gemini icon in Google Maps on their car's display to activate the voice assistant, according to PhocusWire.
The new functionality enables users to ask multi-step questions, such as finding recommendations for places to visit, inquiring about the best time to go, or checking weather conditions. They can also instruct Gemini to start navigation, add preferences like avoiding toll roads, find stops along the way, and report traffic disruptions, as reported by Android Authority.
While the conversational Gemini in navigation is available today for US drivers, a global rollout is also planned, according to The Verge. However, there is no mention yet of the Personal Intelligence features that allow Gemini to access user information from other Google apps like Gmail and Calendar, which were announced for Android Auto users.
