Wyle shared the story on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, explaining that he approached Murphy, a breakout star on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s, for an autograph. After Wyle told Murphy he liked him on SNL, Murphy responded by asking Wyle what he was doing up so late. When Wyle asked for an autograph again, Murphy reportedly told him to “F— off, man.” Wyle, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in April 2026, stated that this incident ensures he always signs autographs quickly for any nine-year-old.
Adding a sweet twist to the story, Wyle's 10-year-old daughter, after hearing his account, created a framed picture for him. The gift included a photo of Eddie Murphy and a handwritten note from "E Dy Murphy" that read, “Dear Noah, you’re a great kid.” His daughter and her mother had obtained Murphy’s autograph the day before for this special present.
