The show also ranked second in Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English category, and Nam Joo Hyuk topped the cast buzz rankings.
However, his recent public appearance on October 30th sparked online speculation about plastic surgery. The official social media account of Daily Fashion News released footage of Nam Joo Hyuk attending a jewelry brand event at Shinsegae Department Store Centum City branch in Busan. In the video, his eyes appeared different, with a more distinct double eyelid line than before, creating a deeper impression.
This change led some online users to suggest he might have undergone double eyelid surgery, according to Koreaboo. Others countered that the more prominent double eyelids could be a natural result of aging, as the flesh around his eyelids might have reduced. Nam Joo Hyuk completed his military service in September 2024 and returned to acting in The East Palace, where he plays Gu Cheon, a character who can see and cut spirits with a sword.
Fans are always quick to notice changes in their favorite stars, and for actors, even subtle differences in appearance can become major talking points, especially after a high-profile return.
