Downtown Los Angeles landmark Hotel Figueroa is celebrating its centennial. Opened in 1926, it was the largest commercial project funded and run entirely by women at the time, designed as a safe haven for female travelers, according to Secret Los Angeles.

The hotel recently unveiled a large mural by Paul Daniels, the artist behind the iconic Kobe Bryant mural on the building's opposite side. This new piece honors Maude N. Bouldin, the hotel’s first general manager and the first female hotel manager in the U.S. Hotel Figueroa also continues its support for women today through its annual Artist Alley residency, which features local female creators like this year's artist, Emily Colvin, Secret Los Angeles reports.

For Halloween, the hotel is embracing its history with themed cocktails available at Florence by the Water, its Italian-Mediterranean restaurant. Guests can order drinks like the Boo Berry, Midnight Vault, or Halloween Sunset. These seasonal beverages can be enjoyed overlooking the hotel’s distinctive coffin-shaped pool.
