The City of Monterey Park will participate in the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill on Thursday, October 15, at 10:15 a.m., according to coloradoboulevard.net. The Monterey Park Fire Department encourages residents, schools, and businesses to join the drill.

Participants will practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold On," a technique designed to help keep individuals safe during an earthquake. This five-minute drill provides an opportunity for both individuals and organizations to review their emergency safety plans and prepare for potential seismic events.

Millions of people across California and worldwide are expected to participate in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on October 15, according to coloradoboulevard.net. The 2020 ShakeOut drill was anticipated to be the largest preparedness event in U.S. history, with 5.2 million registrations as of October of the article's publication year.

Tina Curry, chief deputy director of operations for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, emphasized that practicing "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" is the most important action people can take for their safety during an earthquake. Most earthquake injuries are caused by falling objects, not collapsing buildings.

Participation in the drill is free and open to anyone, regardless of their location. It serves as a practical step for Los Angeles residents to enhance their readiness for earthquakes.
