This collaboration marks London professional skater Kyle Wilson’s first signature shoe with Nike SB, bringing a skate-focused overhaul to the iconic Air Max 95 silhouette.
Wilson, who turned pro with Palace Skateboards in 2021, has been a key figure in the UK and global skateboarding scene. For this release, he worked with Nike SB to adapt the Air Max 95, a model more known for lifestyle wear, into a shoe built for skateboarding.
Highsnobiety reports the design maintains the Air Max 95’s signature layered upper but introduces subtle color accents to its mostly black aesthetic. The shoe features a metallic side-stripe that shifts from gold to bronze, paired with heavy-duty black mesh and durable black suede overlays around the toe cap and mudguard, designed to withstand grip tape. The midsole is reinforced for high-impact skating without altering the shoe’s visual identity.
Footwear designer David Nickless stated that the goal was to make functional changes without significantly altering the Air Max 95’s look. The SB version includes shallower outsole lugs and a herringbone tread for better grip, reinforced panel edges, and double stitching for durability. A softer shank plate underfoot and a reduced midsole aim to improve board control and feel. The shoe also uses suede and leather, materials preferred by skaters, according to Highsnobiety.
The AKUSO take: This collaboration offers a blend of classic design and skate-specific engineering. It’s for anyone who appreciates a sneaker with history that’s been subtly updated for performance.
